Course overview

The PGCert in Cancer Care is a comprehensive, innovative course designed to equip healthcare professionals with the clinical capabilities to provide optimal care for people affected by cancer.

The flexible provision enabled by this course will allow you to develop, advance and maximise your theoretical and practical knowledge, skills and clinical capabilities in cancer care.

Content

Our PGCert in Cancer Care comprises three 20 credit modules, mapped to the ACCEND Framework:

1) Communication skills in Supportive and End of Life Care

2 Evidencing Work Based Learning (EWBL)

3) Fundamentals of Cancer Care

See the overview of the programme structure (PDF).

Learning and Teaching

Our PGCert is fully aligned with the nationwide Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development Programme (ACCEND) Framework. By completing the course, you'll be able to evidence the skills and capabilities required for professional development and career enhancement within cancer care.

Teaching sessions take place at Glenside Campus, Dorothy House Hospice Care and online. In addition, work-based learning will form an integral part of the course. This will allow you to experience a myriad of different learning opportunities throughout your PGCert.  This will include, but isn't limited to, lectures, seminars, small group work, action learning sets and sessions in our world leading simulation suite.

Assessment

Assessments include academic posters, presentations, reflections and critical critiques of transcribed patient interactions plus practice assessed achievement of Capabilities in Practice from the ACCEND framework.
